Anyone want to donate a human powered craft (kayaks, canoes, rowing boats or shells) to a new club developing on San Juan Island? We'll take boats that need a little elbow grease but we'll pass if your old boat is already a planter box. I'll collect any offerings, unless you want the excuse to come out for an island visit. Thanks - David Halpern (360) 378 5721 or halpern@rockisland.com.

Interested in racing, but not quite sure how to get started? Some of our more established members have graciously offered to mentor new competitors. Mentoring covers a range of activities and may include training sessions or tips, helping you get to the race, walking you through registration, competing with or along side you so you won't get lost, and above all ensuring you have a good time!
Currently Steve Wells of Evergreen Rowing in Tacoma, Michael Furtado in Bellevue, and Kathy McCormack have offered to mentor any rowers who are interested. Please feel free to contact them if you'd like some help getting started!
Have experience you'd like to share? Send an email to your webmaster@soundrowers.org and add your name to the mentor list.
In addition to mentoring, Steve has a small number of boats and oars he can make available at races - just make sure you place your request in advance so he can plan transportation. Available boats are: Aero, 24, Flyweight, and Double.
Jeff Knakal, our intrepid newsletter editor, rowed the Erie Canal. Read all about it in his reports.
