Get Involved

Sound Rowers is run by volunteers. This means there are ample ways to get involved, and membership participation is crucial to the health of our club. Some positions or jobs may seem daunting to the uninitiated, but we welcome your help anyway! We can also help you get started – for example, by shadowing someone in the existing position. Take a look, and see if you would like to help out with any of the following. Likewise feel free to make your own suggestions if you see a need that is not taken care of.

Here’s where we could use some help:

Race Director: La Conner. Greg and Kristin have been running this race with grace and good humor for ten years now, and would like to hand the reigns over to a new crew. La Conner kicks off the race year in a spectacular location! Contact Greg and Kristin at ggilda@dci-engineers.com to find out more. Your chance to shadow is coming up right at the beginning of the new year!

Webscorer: A team would be great here. The lead position is for someone to annually create all the registration pages for the races, and link them to the website. This person would also be the liason to the race director, helping them out with the webscorer app. Additional support would be great so we could have a team of experts we could tap to have one expert onsite to assist the race director with registration and timing.

Social Media: Facebook, Yahoo groups. Create a mailing list to replace yahoo – say MailChimp?

Website: Your webmaster for life would like to hand this off to a tech-savvy, detail-oriented individual. Familiarity with WordPress is desirable. Basic duties are annual updates of the race schedule, linking race registration pages and race result page, linking photo pages, ongoing management of webmaster email, classifieds.

Boat Classifications: Tom Cartmill began the long list of kayak classifications, but has since retired. Our list is looked to around the the world for kayak standards – it would be great if we could continue the lead.
